[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 8th that it will take measures in response to the recent child abuse case involving an elementary school girl in Changnyeong.
Recently, the Changnyeong Police Station booked the stepfather B (35) and the biological mother C (27) without detention on charges of abusing their elementary school daughter A (9 years old, 4th grade) (child abuse).
The stepfather and others are suspected of habitually abusing A from 2018 until recently.
This fact came to light when a citizen found A with bruises on her eyes on a street in Changnyeong at around 6:20 p.m. on the 29th of last month and reported it to the police. The police are investigating the circumstances of the case with the stepfather and stepmother.
The Provincial Office of Education first requested the school to take emergency protective measures for the victim student, conducted psychological tests and counseling by experts, requested temporary protective measures for the victim student from the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office, and plans to protect her in a childcare facility after discharge.
To prevent recurrence of domestic abuse, the Provincial Office of Education plans to form a task force to establish an immediate reporting system upon detecting signs of child abuse.
