The appearance of a table tennis center in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, recently reported to have been visited by a confirmed COVID-19 case
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] It has been confirmed that a patient infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) who visited a table tennis center in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, attended a service at Keunnamu Church in Yongin City. The quarantine authorities have linked the two cluster outbreaks and classified them as a single cluster infection.
Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for COVID-19, stated at a regular briefing on the 8th, "Epidemiological investigation revealed that a visitor to the Yangcheon-gu table tennis center on the 28th of last month attended a service at Keunnamu Church in Yongin on the 31st of the same month."
According to the quarantine authorities, as of noon that day, there were 22 confirmed cases related to the Yangcheon-gu table tennis center and 19 cases related to Keunnamu Church. The two groups have been reclassified as a cluster related to sports facilities in Yangcheon-gu, with a total of 41 confirmed cases so far. Seven additional confirmed cases related to Richway, a health product direct sales company located in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, have increased the total to 52. Most cases, 49, are from Seoul and the metropolitan area, with 2 confirmed in Chungnam and 1 in Gangwon.

View original imageConfirmed cases have also continued to emerge in religious small gatherings, including pioneering churches in the metropolitan area. Regarding pioneering churches, 4 additional infections were reported compared to the previous day, bringing the cumulative total to 86 confirmed cases. Among these, 31 are church-related confirmed cases and 55 are contacts. In relation to the pastors' meeting in Gunpo and Anyang cities, Gyeonggi Province, 2 additional individuals under self-quarantine tested positive, increasing the total to 21.
Regarding the Itaewon clubs in Seoul, one more person tested positive in a test conducted before lifting self-quarantine, bringing the total confirmed cases to 274. There are 96 confirmed cases among club visitors and 178 among their contacts. At the Coupang logistics center in Bucheon City, Gyeonggi Province, 4 people tested positive in tests before lifting self-quarantine, and 1 contact under quarantine also tested positive, adding up to 5 new cases and a cumulative total of 138 confirmed cases. Additionally, one resident under quarantine at the Happy Nursing Home in Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, tested positive, increasing the total infections to 9.
Head Jung said, "Since May, cluster infections in the metropolitan area have been spreading sequentially, moving through locations and situations such as Itaewon clubs, logistics centers, pioneering churches, religious small gatherings, direct sales, and table tennis clubs," and urged, "We ask that people refrain from gatherings with many participants in the metropolitan area as much as possible and switch various meetings or conferences to non-face-to-face, online formats for safety."
