Partial Autonomous Signboard Improvement on Digital-ro in Guro-gu
From Exit 2 of Namguro Station to the entrance of Samhwa Printing, support up to 1.5 million KRW for 160 businesses in both directions... Maximum support for replacing non-compliant signs with compliant, three-dimensional signs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is promoting a voluntary signboard improvement project targeting certain areas of Digital-ro.
On the 8th, Guro-gu announced that it will support the replacement costs of illegal and old signboards for stores in certain areas of Digital-ro to improve the urban landscape and create a pleasant street environment.
This voluntary signboard improvement project will be carried out for 67 buildings and 160 businesses in both directions from Exit 2 of Namguro Station to the entrance of Samhwa Printing.
Guro-gu will invest a total budget of 280 million KRW, including the Outdoor Advertising Development Fund, and provide up to 1.5 million KRW per store for signboard production and installation costs.
The support targets are businesses that improve signboards that do not meet current permit standards to compliant ones, and businesses that replace flat-type signboards installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of buildings with simple three-dimensional LED signboards.
Since March, Guro-gu has been conducting promotional activities to guide store owners and others to participate in the project. Applications for participation were accepted until the 5th of this month, and the design consultation, production, and installation processes for each store's signboard are underway. The project will be completed next month.

Meanwhile, to ease the economic burden on small business owners, Guro-gu will also fully waive signboard permit (report) fees during the signboard improvement project period. A Guro-gu official said, “Once the signboard improvement project is completed, we expect to see a cleaner and more neatly arranged Digital-ro,” and added, “We will do our best to create a clean and safe street.”
