[Weekly Savings Bank] Good News: Regular Employee Conversion and Advertising Award Winner
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] Good news has come from the savings bank industry regarding the conversion of non-regular workers to regular employees and winning advertising awards.
◆ Pepper Savings Bank continues regular employee conversion for 4 years
Pepper Savings Bank recently announced that it converted 34 non-regular contract employees within the company to regular employees.
This regular employee conversion was decided with the purpose of realizing employment stability as a social enterprise based on Pepper Savings Bank’s “people-centered” values. As of the end of April, 34 contract employees currently working were converted to regular employees, and in 2017, 70; in 2018, 35; and last year, 16 non-regular contract employees were converted to regular employees.
Matthew Jang, CEO of Pepper Savings Bank, said, “I have heard that many workers are worried about job insecurity due to the recent impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Pepper Savings Bank always treats its employees like family and strives to create a happy workplace environment without job insecurity,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to become a warmer and more family-like financial institution.”
Earlier, on the 1st of last month, Pepper Savings Bank newly hired 4 non-regular loan solicitors under outsourcing contracts as official employees. The 4 newly hired employees are working at the Sales Center under the Consumer Finance Headquarters.
◆ SBI Savings Bank wins Good Advertising Award
SBI Savings Bank announced that the ‘SBI Hope Savings Project Cambodia Edition’ won the Good Advertising Award chosen by the public.
This advertising award ceremony is hosted by the Korea Advertisers Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, marking its 28th year this year.
The SBI Hope Savings Project is a social contribution campaign that introduces the purpose and activities of the volunteer group SBI Hope Sharing Global Expedition, launched to help underprivileged children worldwide, and aims to share its public interest with the public.
The Cambodia edition features various volunteer activities carried out last May in villages and schools in Phnom Penh and Prey Veng regions of Cambodia.
In particular, the activity of repairing abandoned bicycles in Korea and donating them to Cambodian students so they can use them for commuting to and from school received excellent evaluations.
◆ IBK Savings Bank launches non-face-to-face mid-interest loan product
IBK Savings Bank launched the i-Pass loan, a mid-interest credit loan for office workers that can be applied for online.
Operating in the Busan area, IBK Savings Bank introduced the mobile application ‘iBank’ in March, the first in the industry to use the Savings Banks Association’s open API method, and has now launched this new loan product.
Through the iBank app, users can apply for policy finance products such as the online Sunshine Loan and office worker credit loan products.

This loan is available to any office worker who has paid health insurance for more than 3 months and has an annual income of over 24 million KRW. Through a simple screening process, applicants can borrow up to 5 million KRW for a maximum of 3 years with an interest rate starting at 5.8% per annum. There is no need to visit a branch or submit documents; only a mobile phone registered in the applicant’s name, a digital certificate, ID, and email address are required.
