'Gatgat' Moon Hyung-wook Arrested and Indicted... 12 Charges Including Violation of the Child and Adolescent Sexual Protection Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Moon Hyung-wook (24), the creator of the 'n번방' (n Room), the origin of the Telegram sexual exploitation chat rooms, has been brought to trial while in custody.
The Andong Branch of Daegu District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 5th that Moon was indicted in custody on charges including violation of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse (Child and Youth Sexual Protection Act). The prosecution added three charges including special injury to the nine charges such as violation of the Child and Youth Sexual Protection Act, bringing a total of 12 charges against Moon.
Moon is accused of producing and possessing sexually exploitative obscene materials involving women, including minors, 1,285 times from January 2017 to July this year. It was revealed that Moon distributed 3,762 sexually exploitative obscene materials through the n번방.
Moon conspired with six accomplices to sexually assault or engage in similar sexual acts with minors, producing or attempting to produce sexually exploitative obscene materials. Five of the accomplices have been prosecuted and sentenced.
He is also accused of threatening three parents of minor victims from September 2018 to March 2019 by threatening to distribute sexually exploitative obscene materials, and forcing two victims in November 2018 to carve specific phrases on his body with a weapon.
