Seongdong-gu Janghanpyeong Station Traffic Island Transformed into a Tree-Filled Community Rest Area
District, Janghanpyeong Station Traffic Island Transformed into Green Space Resident Rest Area and Flower Garden... Providing Four-Season Scenery, Installing Seating Walls as a Healing Garden for Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) has transformed the green space around Janghanpyeong Station's traffic island into a community resting area and flower garden.
This project, part of the urban regeneration initiative 'Janghanpyeong Streetscape Improvement Project,' converted the previously dull green space into a tree zone where residents can experience seasonal changes, adding comfortable resting functions to create a relaxation area for the community.
Five species of 264 trees, including existing pine trees within the green zone, were rearranged and reused. Seating walls were installed in the resting area to provide a place for subway users and nearby residents to relax.
Additionally, to offer beautiful scenery throughout all four seasons, 204 shrubs of three species such as Nandina and 3,602 herbaceous plants of 16 species including Spiraea thunbergii were planted.
An official from the district stated, "This renovated space will serve as a healing garden in the heart of the city for residents tired of traffic congestion on Cheonho-daero, and we expect it to become a compass guiding the successful direction of the 'Janghanpyeong Streetscape Improvement Project,' an urban regeneration initiative led by the district."
