Muju-gun, Achieving 'Two Goals with One Effort' in Public Forest Management
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Go Dallyoung] Muju-gun is actively promoting the Public Forest Management Project, achieving significant effects in creating jobs for residents and spreading the image of Muju as a clean tourism city.
According to Muju-gun on the 4th, the '2020 Public Forest Management Project' is being actively promoted by involving low-income groups and unemployed youth in public forest management. This project aims to create jobs for residents while developing forests, which have great public benefits, into more valuable resources, effectively "catching two rabbits with one stone."
Before the project began, 69 members of the Forest Biomass Collection Team were selected in April, and education on COVID-19 infection prevention, safety and accident prevention, and work procedures was provided to participants, marking the start of the full-scale project.
In May, roadside grass cutting was completed along approximately 3.5 km of the Muju-gun bypass road. Additionally, vine and brush removal was carried out on 2 km of forest land along the access road to the major tourist attraction, Meoru Wine Cave. Forest management (thinning and biomass collection) was also conducted and completed on 3 hectares of Hyangro Mountain, creating a clean tourism image for visitors to attractions such as Meoru Wine Cave and Hyangro Mountain.
The county plans to continuously manage roadside and adjacent forest areas along major roads in Muju-gun to welcome summer tourists, aiming to create a clean urban environment befitting the image of clean Muju.
