[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongmyung University has been selected as a recipient of the 'Laboratory Startup Innovation Group' project by the Ministry of Science and ICT, giving a boost to laboratory startup education and exploration activities.
Dongmyung University announced on the 3rd that it was recently selected for the Ministry of Education's '4th Industrial Revolution Innovation Leading University' and also chosen for the Ministry of Science and ICT's '2020 Public Technology-Based Market-Linked Startup Exploration Support Project (Korean I-Corps) Southeast Region Laboratory Startup Innovation Group.'

The project period is from May 2020 to the end of February 2021, with a budget of 610 million KRW.
The Laboratory Startup Innovation Group is a dedicated startup incubation organization that discovers startup demands from researchers affiliated with universities and research institutes and comprehensively supports startup exploration activities using the methodology of the U.S. NSF I-Corps program.
Since its inception in 2015, this project has been operated by five innovation groups including Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Sookmyung Women's University, as well as two domestic and international startup specialized organizations such as the Korea Youth Entrepreneurship Foundation and KIC-D.C.
This year, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT's plan to expand laboratory startups, Dongmyung University and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology were additionally selected as the Southeast and Honam region Laboratory Startup Innovation Groups. This is expected to support startup teams mainly composed of graduate students, expand the base of laboratory startup culture, and resolve regional disparities caused by imbalances.
