Military Death Accident Complaint Submission Deadline September 13
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) has decided to cooperate with the Presidential Military Death Accident Truth Commission (Chairman Lee In-ram) to enable more bereaved families in the area to file petitions.
The Commission was established in September 2018 under a special law and is responsible for receiving petitions from bereaved families or witnesses regarding military death accidents, conducting fair and objective investigations to uncover the truth.
The scope of petition acceptance includes not only so-called "military suspicious deaths," where the cause of death is suspected to be unclear, but also all types of military death accidents such as accidental deaths, deaths from illness, and suicides. In particular, following the 2014 amendment to the Military Personnel Act, families related to cases of self-inflicted death (suicide) due to factors such as assault, other harsh treatment, or excessive workload during military service can also receive official recognition of death in the line of duty, so it is necessary for related families to actively file petitions.
