Gangnam-gu Operates Traditional Market 'Online Shopping' in the Untact Era
Yeongdong Traditional Market and Dogok Market Targeted... Preparing for the Post-Corona Era and Revitalizing the Stagnant Local Commercial Districts
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has been operating an online grocery shopping service since the 20th of last month, allowing orders of products sold at traditional markets within the district in response to the untact era.
This service aims to provide convenience to residents reluctant to visit markets due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to revitalize the stagnant local commercial district. Customers can order products sold at traditional markets via smartphone applications and receive them on the same day.
Yeongdong Traditional Market (Merchants Association President Song In-soon), a representative alley-type market located in Nonhyeon-dong, offers various products such as food, agricultural products, and miscellaneous goods through the delivery app ‘Ddingdong’, delivering not only within Gangnam-gu but also to the neighboring Seocho-gu.
Additionally, Dogok Market (Merchants Association President Lee Hyun-jae), located in Yeoksam-dong, started online order and delivery services targeting the entire Gangnam-gu from the 10th, with 20 food-selling stores within the market scheduled to join the Naver platform ‘Neighborhood Market Shopping’.

Hong Myung-sook, head of the Local Economy Division, said, “In preparation for the post-COVID-19 era, we plan to expand this service to other traditional markets in the area. We ask all residents to actively use this service to boost the morale of small business owners and revitalize the local economy.”
