'Grandmother I Yong-su's Backing Allegation' Kim Eo-jun Reported to Prosecutors for Defamation Charges
"False Statement... Defamation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Broadcaster Kim Eo-jun, who raised a 'behind-the-scenes theory' alleging third-party involvement in the second press conference of Japanese military comfort women victim Grandma Lee Yong-soo, was accused on the 1st.
The Association of Judicial Exam Preparation Students (Sajunmo) filed a complaint against Kim with the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office on the same day, charging him with violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (Information and Communications Network Act) and other offenses.
Sajunmo claimed that Kim's statements on his TBS radio show 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory,' such as "Grandma's story is similar to the claims of Choi Yong-sang, leader of the Gaja Human Rights and Peace Party," and "It is clear that Grandma did not write the press conference document herself," constitute defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act or the Criminal Act.
Sajunmo stated, "Since Grandma Lee Yong-soo and her adopted daughter Ms. Kwak have rebutted by saying 'Grandma Lee wrote the press conference document herself with Ms. Kwak's help,' the defendant's broadcast content should be considered false information. Kim specifically stated false facts without justification," adding, "We believe the defendant intended to defame Grandma's honor through this broadcast," and urged the prosecution to investigate.

Kim claimed, "The pre-distributed press conference document shows the logic of the Gaja Human Rights and Peace Party, and it contains many terms that an elderly person of that age would not use, clearly indicating that Grandma did not write (the document)," accusing Choi, leader of the Gaja Human Rights and Peace Party, as being behind it.
In response, Ms. Kwak stated on her Facebook on the same day that she had organized the press conference document from the second press conference held the previous day (the 25th of last month).
Ms. Kwak said, "I wonder what kind of thinking leads to the arrogant assumption that there is not even one person around my mother who can organize her thoughts," emphasizing, "Since the initial press conference proceeded without a document and only fragmented content was delivered by the media, it was necessary to organize it. I discussed with my mother, confirmed all sentences, and organized and announced it."
