Seongnam City Inspects 506 Food and Beverage Stores Selling Popular Items Near Schools
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct inspections of 506 establishments that prepare and sell children's favorite foods from the 2nd to the 10th of this month, coinciding with the full reopening of elementary, middle, and high schools.
To this end, Seongnam City has formed eight joint public-private inspection teams consisting of 16 members: 14 dedicated children's favorite food managers and 2 public officials.
The inspection targets include snack bars, convenience stores, stationery shops, and school stores located within 200 meters of schools in designated children's food safety protection zones.
They will check for expired products, display and sale of unlabeled products, hygiene conditions, and origin labeling of foods popular among children such as snacks, bread, beverages, and tteokbokki.
Special focus will be placed on inspecting the sale of foods harmful to children's emotional development, high-calorie/low-nutrition foods, and foods containing high caffeine levels.
To prevent and contain COVID-19, 200 copies of promotional materials detailing the "distancing in daily life" guidelines will also be distributed.
Minor issues such as inadequate personal hygiene found during inspections will be corrected on the spot.
If violations such as selling high-calorie/low-nutrition or emotionally harmful foods, or failure to display nutritional information are detected, corrective orders or fines will be imposed.
