[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Hee-eun Park] According to foreign media including the British BBC on the 30th (local time), Prince Joachim of Belgium was infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) after attending a party in Spain, where lockdown measures are in effect.
On the 30th (local time), the Belgian palace announced that Prince Joachim, nephew of King Philippe of Belgium, tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a party in C?rdoba, southern Spain, on the 28th.
The Belgian palace stated that Prince Joachim traveled to Spain on the 26th for an internship.
Spanish media reported that a total of 27 people attended the party with Prince Joachim. However, Spain currently prohibits gatherings of more than 16 people. Therefore, the party attendees violated government regulations.
BBC reported that those who break such lockdown rules could face fines up to 10,000 euros (approximately 13.8 million KRW).
Currently, Spanish police have launched an investigation into the party.
