Dongdaemun-gu Allocates 42.5 Billion Won in 2020 Supplementary Budget for COVID-19 Recovery and More
830 million KRW for overcoming COVID-19 and revitalizing the local economy, 750 million KRW for resolving residents' inconveniences and promoting current projects, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) has prepared a supplementary budget proposal of 42.5 billion KRW for the first supplementary budget of 2020 and submitted it to the district council.
The district focused on alleviating the suffering of residents caused by COVID-19 and revitalizing the local economy in preparing this supplementary budget proposal.
It was also prepared to ensure no neglect in resolving residents' inconveniences and promoting ongoing projects.
First, a total of 8.3 billion KRW was allocated for COVID-19 response and local economic revitalization. To ensure smooth progress of specimen testing and quarantine for COVID-19 response, 2 billion KRW was allocated to the disaster management fund, and 3.5 billion KRW was allocated to the Small and Medium Business Development Fund to expand loan support for small business owners and self-employed individuals.
Additionally, to issue Dongdaemun-gu Love Gift Certificates worth a total of 10 billion KRW this year, 100 million KRW was newly allocated in this supplementary budget proposal to support the issuance of the gift certificates, and 1.7 billion KRW was allocated for COVID-19 living support and emergency welfare projects.
A budget of 7.5 billion KRW was allocated to eliminate residents' inconveniences and to ensure no gaps in projects for improving local infrastructure and environment as well as ongoing projects. This includes 800 million KRW for maintenance of aging facilities such as neighborhood parks, 1.7 billion KRW for road maintenance and pedestrian environment improvement projects, 1.4 billion KRW for underground utility projects, 700 million KRW for road expansion projects, and 1 billion KRW for sewage facility and sewer management and rainwater pump station maintenance.
In particular, an additional 3 billion KRW was allocated to the special parking fund to actively carry out projects to resolve local parking difficulties.
Furthermore, 5.9 billion KRW was increased for 43 essential projects for residents' daily lives, including maintenance of aging electrical wiring at Cheongnyangni Agricultural and Marine Products Market, support for childcare staff salaries, and support for disability activity assistance benefits.
Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, expressed gratitude to the residents who cooperated with one heart and mind to overcome the situation despite economic difficulties and inconveniences caused by COVID-19, stating, "Dongdaemun-gu will accelerate projects for overcoming COVID-19, recovering the local economy, and stabilizing people's livelihoods through this supplementary budget."

This supplementary budget proposal is scheduled to be finalized on June 18 after review and resolution by the Dongdaemun-gu Council.
