New Chief Representative Kang Insun Appointed to UN Command Military Armistice Commission
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu]The United Nations Command announced on the 27th that Major General Kang In-soon of the Republic of Korea Army has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Military Armistice Commission.
The UN Command stated, "The new Chief of Staff has accepted the responsibility for the implementation and management of the armistice agreement, delegated by the Commander of the United Nations Command," and explained, "He will carry out his duties following many senior generals who previously held the position." They added, "The new Chief of Staff will spare no effort in supporting the maintenance of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."
The UN Command has been appointing Korean Army generals as Chiefs of Staff since 1991 to facilitate armistice-related affairs between South and North Korea.

The UN Command Military Armistice Commission is also tasked with forming a multinational special investigation team, including liaison officers from UN member countries, to investigate any violations of the armistice agreement.
