The county announced on the 26th that it has established a control plan and is actively implementing pest control by strengthening education and publicity on control methods, as well as on-site guidance, preparing a systematic response.
The sudden pest (a pest whose density suddenly increases due to climate change or ecological changes) begins hatching from overwintered eggs around mid-May of the following year, goes through the nymph stages up to the 5th instar, becomes an adult, lays eggs until early October, and then dies.
It sucks sap from trees such as apple, pear, and peach, causing widespread damage, and induces sooty mold disease through its excrement.
It also damages new branches where fruits should grow by wounding them and laying eggs, thereby lowering the quality of the fruit and causing significant damage to orchards.
Since this pest moves and inhabits both agricultural and forest areas, simultaneous pest control in both farmland and forest areas is necessary.
Since 2017, the affected area and pest density have been stabilizing, but this year, due to the cold spring period, hatching is expected to be delayed by about 5 to 7 days compared to the previous year, requiring careful monitoring of the hatching period.

Kim Jojung, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “We have established an organic cooperation system by designating joint pest control days with forest quarantine agencies and setting unified pest control periods. We will make every effort to minimize damage to farms through strengthened monitoring of sudden pest outbreaks.”
