Seoul Subway Line 5 Derailment, Service Resumes Between Banghwa and Hwagok (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] In the early morning of the 24th, train operations on a section of Seoul Subway Line 5 were temporarily suspended and then resumed due to a derailment accident involving a train moving to the vehicle depot.
Seoul Metro announced that train operations between Banghwa and Hwagok, which had been halted since the first train, were normalized around 12:50 PM.
According to the corporation, at around 1:40 AM, a train derailed at Balsan Station on Line 5. This train was a non-revenue train moving from Godeok Vehicle Depot to Banghwa Vehicle Depot, and it was reported that there were no passengers on board.
Immediately after the accident, the corporation deployed an on-site response team to carry out recovery work and temporarily suspended operations between Banghwa and Hwagok.

Additionally, 11 emergency shuttle buses were deployed in the section where train operations were suspended. Passengers used substitute shuttle buses at eight stations including Banghwa, Gaehwasan, and Gimpo Airport until the recovery was completed.
