Gangnam-gu, IoT-Based Smart Shared Parking Service
Prevent Illegal Parking with Sensor Installation... Available from July via 'The Gangnam' and 'Parking Friends' Apps
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) will launch a smart shared parking service using the Internet of Things (IoT) in July to improve the efficient use of parking spaces and resolve illegal parking issues.
This service shares designated resident-priority parking spaces that are vacant due to commuting or outings through the applications ‘The Gangnam’ and ‘Parking Friends.’ IoT sensors attached to the parking spaces detect vehicles other than authorized users to enforce illegal parking control.
If the assigned user registers the time period when the parking space will be vacant on the app, other users can prepay and use the available space by the hour.
The parking fee is 900 KRW per 30 minutes.
In particular, this service is differentiated from existing shared parking services by utilizing IoT technology. On the 25th, the district signed a business agreement with Hancom Mobility for sensor installation and parking data collection, and will begin service development.
Additionally, by July next year, IoT sensors will be installed on 4,800 resident-priority parking spaces in the area.
