Prime Minister Chung: "Roh Moo-hyun, the insightful president who established KCDC... I will create a 'World Where People Live'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun mourned on the 23rd, the 11th anniversary of former President Roh Moo-hyun's passing, saying, "Time has passed, but I miss the times we spent together again and again," and vowed, "I will definitely create the 'world where people live' that former President Roh sought to achieve."
In a letter titled "A Letter to President Roh Moo-hyun" posted on Facebook that day, Prime Minister Chung recalled former President Roh's past remark, "If the era of Roh Moo-hyun comes, I don't think I will be there," saying, "Did he foresee the future while alive? This sorrowful phrase shakes the entire month of May."
He continued, "The human rights lawyer who first revealed the truth about the May 18 Gwangju incident in Busan, the parliamentary candidate who spontaneously sang 'Busan Seagull' during a campaign, the president who bowed his head in return even when receiving a salute from a police officer, the affectionate grandfather who carefully placed a handkerchief on the back seat of a bicycle so his granddaughter wouldn't get hurt?I miss those images deeply now," and added, "You are the eternal president in our hearts."
Prime Minister Chung said, "Currently, South Korea is being swept by the COVID-19 pandemic," and recalled, "Looking back, during the Participatory Government in 2003, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) also spread worldwide." He added, "The experience of fighting the epidemic as if at war is greatly helping us overcome COVID-19 now," and praised, "The establishment of the Crisis Management Center and the launch of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after the end of SARS were foresights of former President Roh who anticipated the future."
Furthermore, he noted, "Seventeen years later, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is on the verge of being elevated to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency," and emphasized, "'Those who lived' and 'those who are living' are joining hands across the 17 years."
