View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] In Gumi City, the residential area of a student from Daegu Agricultural Meister High School who tested positive for COVID-19 during the dormitory admission process for in-person classes, infections are continuing to occur.
On the 22nd, following the student’s older brother, three additional confirmed cases were identified in the Gumi area on the 23rd. All three, aged between 40 and 60, are reported to attend the same church as the Daegu Agricultural Meister High School student.
One more case was confirmed in Seongju County, adjacent to Gumi. The confirmed patient in Seongju County (69-year-old female) is known to be linked to the Itaewon clubs in Seoul.
According to Gyeongbuk Province and others, one person in Gumi City was confirmed positive for COVID-19 the previous day, increasing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Gyeongbuk Province to 1,332 as of the morning of the 23rd.
The new confirmed case in Gumi on the 22nd was a 49-year-old woman attending the same church as the Daegu Agricultural Meister High School student. On the morning of the 23rd, three more people tested positive: the pastor (56-year-old female) and her spouse from Yelim Church in Wonpyeong-dong, Gumi, and one person from Seongju County.
Unlike the usual practice of reporting confirmed cases as of midnight on the day of announcement, Gyeongbuk Province unusually included confirmed cases identified in the morning of the same day as reference data. Health authorities are conducting additional investigations, judging that the woman residing in Seongju County is linked to the infection route related to the Itaewon clubs in Seoul.
In Gyeongbuk Province, the record of zero community transmission cases excluding overseas entrants was broken on the 22nd after 18 days. Due to family transmission involving the Daegu Agricultural Meister High School student, Gumi City has seen a series of confirmed cases unofficially numbered 72 to 73 (after midnight on the 23rd), following cases 69 to 71 since March 27.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients in Gyeongbuk Province increased to 1,231 with three discharges the previous day, resulting in a recovery rate of 92.6%. The death toll remains at 58. Currently, 39 COVID-19 patients are being treated at eight hospitals nationwide, including the National Medical Center.
