Korea Participates in Video Conference with Huanin Indo-Pacific Alliance Senior Officials... "Actively Engaging in International Cooperation on COVID-19"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the evening of the 21st, Kim Jeong-han, Director of the Asia-Pacific Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended a virtual meeting of senior officials of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and shared information on the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in member countries and exchanged views on future cooperation measures to respond to the infectious disease.
IORA, composed of 22 member countries, is a regional consultative body for economic and social cooperation among countries bordering the Indian Ocean. South Korea became a Dialogue Partner in November 2018. The Dialogue Partners include 10 countries: South Korea, the United States, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Egypt, Turkey, and Italy.
At this meeting, IORA member countries explained the current status of COVID-19 spread and response measures in their countries, mentioned the necessity of regional quarantine cooperation and support for vulnerable countries, and expressed hope for sharing quarantine experiences among Dialogue Partners and providing support to member countries.
IORA Dialogue Partners agreed on the importance of global solidarity and cooperation to overcome this unprecedented global pandemic that has not been seen for decades, and decided to continue related discussions with IORA.
Accordingly, the Korean side explained its quarantine achievements based on openness, transparency, and democracy, shared the experiences and lessons learned in the process, and emphasized its active participation in the international community's efforts to block the spread of this infectious disease and bring an early end to it.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "This meeting is evaluated as an opportunity to share various information and experiences on the COVID-19 situation among many countries in the Indian Ocean region and their Dialogue Partners amid the ongoing spread of COVID-19, confirm the importance of international cooperation to end this infectious disease, and create momentum for cooperation within the Indian Ocean region."
