Gyeonggi-do Provides Free Air Conditioner Installation to 750 Households Including Elderly Living Alone
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will invest 600 million won this year, following last year, to provide free air conditioner installation in the homes of elderly living alone.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will promote the "2020 Heatwave Energy Welfare Support Project," which provides free air conditioner installation to low-income elderly living alone in the province who have difficulty moving and cannot use heatwave shelters.
This year, the province was selected for the "Gyeonggi Province-type Policy Market" project and will jointly invest a total of 632 million won with 14 cities and counties wishing to participate in the project.
The province and the 14 cities and counties will select 750 households of elderly living alone who receive basic living subsidies and have mobility difficulties, and install high-efficiency wall-mounted air conditioners worth about 500,000 won, equipped with moisture removal and air purification functions.
The installation began on the 21st of this month and will be completed by the end of June, before the peak heat period.
Last year, the province invested 633 million won to support air conditioner installation for 586 households of elderly living alone with mobility difficulties among basic living subsidy recipients in 31 cities and counties nationwide, the first such project in the country.
