[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) is promoting the ‘Student Food Voucher’ project in cooperation with Seoul City and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, providing food ingredient vouchers worth 100,000 KRW per person to all student households in the area.
This initiative was prepared to alleviate the burden on parents and school meal providers who are struggling due to the suspension of school meals caused by delayed school attendance and online classes amid COVID-19.
At an emergency press briefing related to COVID-19 held on the 7th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Seoul City, and autonomous districts announced plans to allocate a total budget of 86 billion KRW to provide food ingredient vouchers to approximately 860,000 elementary, middle, high, and special school students in Seoul, with the budget shared at a ratio of 50% by the Office of Education, 30% by Seoul City, and 20% by the autonomous districts.
Mapo-gu will contribute about 500 million KRW to provide food ingredient vouchers worth 100,000 KRW per student to approximately 27,220 elementary, middle, high, and special school students in the district.
The distribution method will be through a 60,000 KRW NH Nonghyup mobile coupon, which can be used to order eco-friendly rice and food ingredient packages, and 40,000 KRW worth of NH Mall points.
The mobile coupons will be sent to parents’ mobile phone numbers, and the food ingredients will be delivered to each household starting from the end of May through orders.
To receive the food ingredient voucher support, consent to provide personal information and membership registration on NH Mall are required. Detailed guidance will be provided to students and parents through e-Alimi and home correspondence letters from each school.

Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The delay in school openings due to the COVID-19 situation has severely impacted eco-friendly agricultural producers and meal-related businesses. Through this project, we hope to deliver the remaining budget from unimplemented school meals to each student’s household in the form of food ingredient vouchers, easing the burden on families and providing a small help to eco-friendly agricultural producers, creating a win-win opportunity.”
