SKC Launches Window Film for Consumer Self-Installation
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 19th, SKC launched a home-use window film called ‘SK Homecare Film DIY’ that general consumers can install directly on glass windows. It is a DIY product designed to improve ease of installation and reduce cost burden so that professional help is not required.
Window films block intense solar heat and ultraviolet rays, reducing indoor cooling costs and energy expenses, and preventing fading of indoor furniture and curtains. However, until now, professional installation was necessary, and the installation cost burden prevented widespread adoption for home use.
In response, SKC focused its technology on helping general consumers reduce initial trial and error. The adhesive strength was adjusted so the film can be repeatedly reattached and positioned as desired. The adhesive strength increases over time after installation, so the final installation quality is no different from conventional products. Additionally, the film was made thicker than existing products to prevent bending or creasing during installation.
Consumer convenience was also enhanced. New cutting lines at 1cm intervals were added to allow consumers to easily cut the film to their desired size. The product includes basic installation tools such as a squeegee and sandpaper. For consumers who find installation difficult, an instructional video guide is also provided for easy follow-along.
On the other hand, cost burden was lowered. The reduced costs from a shortened distribution process were reflected in the consumer price. Considering that professional installation fees are unnecessary, the perceived cost burden for consumers is reduced by about half compared to before.
SKC released two sizes to meet consumer needs, 150cm and 75cm products. Biodegradable film was used for packaging to emphasize the eco-friendliness of the window film. SKC’s home-use window film ‘SK Homecare Film DIY’ is available for purchase on Naver Shopping.
