Gachon University to Produce 160 Customized Talents for New Industries
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gachon University was recently selected for the Ministry of Education's Early Employment-Type Contract Department Leading University Development Project.
Gachon University will receive 7.2 billion KRW in support over six years until 2025 and recruit 160 freshmen to cultivate talent tailored to regional new industries.
The Early Employment-Type Contract Department Leading University Development Project is a program introduced in 2018, where universities and companies jointly create curricula that meet corporate demands, enabling students to develop practical skills.
A distinctive feature is that employment is confirmed upon admission, and from the second year, students work at companies while simultaneously acquiring academic knowledge.
Participating companies are involved from the student selection process and sign employment contracts with students upon selection.
Students earn 60 credits during their first year and from the second year onwards, as employed workers, they balance work and study, enhancing company-tailored creative convergence education and practical field skills.
In the three-year program, from the second year, students attend intensive lectures during daytime on Fridays and Saturdays to earn credits. They earn 30 credits annually in the second and third years, completing a total of 120 credits to obtain a four-year bachelor's degree. Employment is confirmed upon admission to the respective company, which is expected to increase student preference.
With this project selection, Gachon University will newly establish contract departments in future promising new industry fields: ▲Advanced Medical Devices ▲Game and Video ▲Display ▲Future Automobiles.
The admission quota is 40 students per department, and Gachon University will recruit 160 freshmen starting in 2021.
Participating companies include 158 firms near Gachon University, such as those in Pangyo Techno Valley and Gangnam Teheran Techno Valley, rapidly growing in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including Fabernine, ICD, Namyang Nexmo, and Sesisoft.
