CJ CheilJedang, Bibigo Pyeongyang Mandu... Challenging Mandu at Pyeongyang Naengmyeon Restaurants
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Bibigo, which changed the landscape of the domestic frozen dumpling market, has launched a premium handmade dumpling new product to target the summer season.
CJ CheilJedang announced on the 18th that it has released Bibigo Pyongyang Dumplings, which replicate the moist and mild taste of Pyongyang cold noodle restaurant’s plate dumplings.
This new product enhances the unique fluffy and dense texture of Pyongyang dumplings by increasing the content of domestic pork, tofu, and mung bean sprouts. Additionally, by adding sesame oil and sesame seeds, it achieves a savory flavor without being overpowering. The dumpling skin includes glutinous rice to suit the typical Pyongyang dumpling cooking methods of boiling or steaming, allowing for a chewy and moist taste even when prepared as dumpling soup.
CJ CheilJedang prepared the product for over a year by researching more than 200 dumpling specialty stores to faithfully capture the authentic taste of traditional Pyongyang dumplings. In particular, using CJ CheilJedang’s unique know-how, the product features the large, wrinkle-free Pyongyang dumpling shape rather than the ‘king dumpling’ shape of existing frozen Pyongyang dumplings, delivering restaurant-level taste and appearance.
Since launching Bibigo Wang Gyoja in 2013, Bibigo has expanded the dumpling market by introducing products such as Hanseom dumplings, Gun Gyoja, and handmade dumplings with authentic flavors. Bibigo plans to develop Pyongyang dumplings as a flagship product following Wang Gyoja. Furthermore, starting with Pyongyang dumplings, the company will promote the ‘Korean Dumplings’ project to commercialize dumplings reflecting regional characteristics. Through this, it aims to discover and commercialize excellent Korean dumplings and elevate the status of ‘K dumplings’ in both domestic and global markets.
