Gangnam-gu Completes Preparations for Summer Floods and Typhoons
Formation of Flood Control Headquarters with 13 Teams and About 90 Members... Over 25.6 Billion Won Invested to Complete Sewer Pipes and Rainwater Inlet Maintenance
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) established a flood control task force composed of 13 teams and about 90 members on the 15th, setting up a 24-hour emergency duty system to actively prepare for summer flood and water damage.
For rapid response, the district established an emergency contact system for all employees, designated 37 care officials for 350 vulnerable households in areas such as Guryong Village, and installed flood prevention facilities like water barriers in 280 underground housing units.
Additionally, with a budget of about 25.6 billion KRW, the district completed dredging 140 km of flood prevention sewer pipes, improved 9,178 meters of old and defective sewer pipes, and maintained 36,000 rainwater inlets.
Furthermore, the district secured 27,000 flood control materials and provided training on the use of pumps and submersible pumps to 80 flood control personnel.
Last month, inspections were completed on 29 flood control facilities including rainwater pumping stations and retention basins, as well as 78 flood-vulnerable areas such as rivers and large construction sites, followed recently by checks on 681 pumps and submersible pumps.
Moreover, from the 4th to the 7th, a three-day trial operation was conducted at four locations including Daechi rainwater pumping station and three sluice gates.
Households requiring flood prevention facilities can apply at their local community center or the district office's Water Management Division to have submersible pumps and water barriers installed free of charge.
