Worldwide COVID-19 Infections Surpass 4.5 Million

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University in the U.S., as of the 15th (local time), the total number of COVID-19 infections worldwide is 4.53 million. This marks 136 days since China reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) on December 31 last year that an unknown pneumonia outbreak centered in Wuhan, Hubei Province had occurred.
AFP reported that about three-quarters of all confirmed cases have come from Europe and the United States, with Europe having 1,848,790 confirmed cases and 164,145 deaths, making it the hardest-hit region, according to the agency's analysis. Among individual countries, the United States has the highest number of infections, reaching 1.44 million confirmed cases.
