Governor Kim Kyung-soo appointed Lee Chan-woo, former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance (currently Visiting Research Fellow at the Korea Development Institute), as Chairman of the Economic Innovation Promotion Committee, and Park Jong-won, Senior Corporate Policy Officer of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, as Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs.
The province is currently undergoing related procedures such as background checks, and it is expected that the appointments will be finalized by the end of next week.
Although the Chairman of the Economic Innovation Promotion Committee is from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs is from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, similar to the first economic command tower, Lee Chan-woo and Park Jong-won are each four years younger than their predecessors and have a strong practical orientation, raising expectations that they will accelerate the establishment of an economic vision post-COVID-19 and deliver economic results that residents can feel.
Chairman Lee Chan-woo (nominee) was born in 1966 in Yeongdeok, Gyeongbuk. He graduated from Busan National University High School, Seoul National University’s Department of Political Science, and Yale University Graduate School in the United States. He entered public service in 1987 by passing the 31st Administrative Examination.
Chairman Lee is known as a macroeconomic policy expert skilled in future strategy formulation, having served as Director of the Economic Policy Bureau and Deputy Minister.
Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Park Jong-won (nominee) was born in 1969 in Busan. He graduated from Daedong High School in Busan, Seoul National University’s Department of International Economics, and completed law school at Indiana University in the United States. He entered public service in 1997 by passing the 40th Administrative Examination.

Deputy Governor Park has extensive experience as a practical manager in major strategic industry sectors and is proficient in the real economy. In particular, he is recognized for his significant role in protecting the semiconductor industry during the crisis caused by Japan’s export restrictions on advanced components and materials in August last year.
