Gwangju-Jeonnam Launch 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Policy TF' on Airport Issues
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters reporters Park Seon-gang and Yoon Ja-min] On the 14th, Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeonnam Province held the first meeting of the airport-related ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Policy TF’ at the Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Institute, attended by Kim Gwang-hwi, Director of Planning and Coordination of Gwangju City, and Myung Chang-hwan, Director of Planning and Coordination of Jeollanam-do.
This meeting was held as a follow-up measure to the joint TF formation related to the private airport name and military airport relocation, which Gwangju and Jeonnam agreed to jointly promote in March during the ‘Joint Proposal of Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam for the Sustainable Future Development of Honam.’
The meeting was the inaugural session to launch the ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Policy TF,’ discussing the TF composition and future operational directions.
The TF is composed with the planning and coordination directors of both city and province as team leaders, and includes relevant department heads from both sides as team members, such as the head of Gwangju City Military Airport Relocation Promotion Headquarters, Director of Transportation and Construction Bureau, Jeollanam-do Policy Planning Officer, and Director of Construction and Transportation Bureau.
TF meetings will be held regularly every two months to ensure smooth preparation of policy alternatives.
Additionally, the TF will establish two working support groups under its umbrella for in-depth discussions, holding related meetings monthly.
The issue of the private airport name will be discussed separately, and the working support group related to military airport relocation will work on preparing practical policy alternatives, including amendments to special laws.
Separately, to gather expert opinions for discovering policy alternatives, advisory committee members will be appointed, focusing on experts in the relevant fields such as university professors and researchers.
Jeong Jeong-seok, head of Gwangju City Military Airport Relocation Promotion Headquarters, said, “We hope that the relocation of the Gwangju military airport will be resolved at a grand scale by all sectors of society,” and added, “We will operate the city-province policy TF earnestly from the perspective of putting ourselves in others’ shoes, focusing on discovering policy alternatives that prepare for a sustainable and hopeful future for the region.”
