View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Eunbyeol Kim] The Bank of Korea announced on the 12th that it has appointed Yang Seok-jun, Director of the International Department, as the new Head of the Foreign Exchange Management Department through an external recruitment process.
Appointee Yang joined the Bank of Korea in 1989 and has served as Head of the Foreign Exchange Management Support Division, Chief Secretary, and Director of the Planning and Cooperation Bureau. Since June last year, he has been serving as Director of the International Department.
The Bank of Korea stated, "Appointee Yang possesses experience related to foreign currency asset management, understanding of the global economy and international financial markets, and organizational management capabilities. He will contribute to strengthening the Bank of Korea's foreign currency asset management capabilities and advancing the management of organization and personnel."
The Head of the Foreign Exchange Management Department is responsible for integrated management of planning and investment related to foreign exchange reserves, risk management and performance analysis, and foreign currency fund settlements.

The new Head of the Foreign Exchange Management Department was appointed after document and interview evaluations by a selection committee composed of personnel from both inside and outside the Bank of Korea, followed by an interview with Governor Lee Ju-yeol. The Bank of Korea plans to officially appoint Director Yang as Head of the Foreign Exchange Management Department once the remaining procedures are completed.
