Gokseong-gun Cancels Rose Festival Due to COVID-19 Impact
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Rose Festival, a representative tourist attraction in Gokseong that draws 200,000 to 300,000 visitors annually, has ultimately been canceled due to COVID-19.
Since the easing of social distancing measures on the 6th, Gokseong County has been deliberating whether to hold the event, but recent cluster infections at Itaewon clubs appear to have influenced this decision.
On the 12th, Gokseong County in Jeonnam announced the cancellation of the Gokseong World Rose Festival, which was scheduled to be held from the 22nd to June 7th.
The county was concerned about preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the community, ensuring the safety of local residents and tourists, and the potential economic impact of cancellation. After postponing the decision twice, they ultimately decided to cancel the festival.
However, the Rose Park within Gokseong Train Village, where the roses are in full bloom, will open while adhering to quarantine guidelines.
