Gwangjin-gu, Special Support Funds and Disinfection Assistance for Daycare Centers
A total of 300 million KRW in special support funds provided to private and home daycare centers and daycare centers with foreign children... Monthly regular disinfection conducted once a month at local daycare centers and Childcare Support Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is providing a total of 300 million KRW in special support funds to local daycare centers to overcome COVID-19, conducting regular disinfection once a month.
This 'Daycare Center Special Support Fund' payment was prepared to provide financial support to daycare centers facing difficulties in maintaining employment of existing childcare teachers due to a decrease in enrolled children and reduced childcare fee income as daycare center closures have been prolonged.
The support targets a total of 146 centers: 84 private and home daycare centers within the district and 62 daycare centers with foreign children enrolled. Facilities under suspension, closure, or shutdown are excluded from support.
The district selects private and home daycare centers with low enrollment rates on the condition of maintaining childcare teacher employment and provides differentiated support ranging from 1.14 million to 1.9 million KRW per class according to the enrollment rate.
Additionally, for private and home daycare centers not receiving per-class support, 800,000 KRW per facility will be provided to those with a decrease in total number of children.
Furthermore, the district plans to pay two months’ worth of support based on the current number of foreign children enrolled in daycare centers that do not receive government childcare fee support: 100,000 KRW for infants and 190,000 KRW for young children.
Meanwhile, although daycare centers in Gwangjin-gu are currently closed due to COVID-19, all childcare teachers are attending work normally to provide emergency childcare for children in need.
Also, since the early stages of COVID-19, the district has distributed disinfection supplies and conducted emergency disinfection for local daycare centers, and now performs regular monthly disinfection for daycare centers, Childcare Support Centers, Healthy Family & Multicultural Family Support Centers, and Toy Libraries within the district.
The district plans to continue disinfection until December this year to prevent COVID-19 infection and alleviate anxiety among residents using daycare centers, and will provide additional disinfection support as needed.
