[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Due to a cluster infection of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) originating from clubs in Itaewon, Seoul, the start dates for in-person classes at kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide have been postponed again. The 12th-grade students who were scheduled to return on the 13th will now attend school on the 20th, 11th-grade, 9th-grade, 1st-2nd grade elementary, and kindergarten students will return on the 27th, and 10th-grade, 8th-grade, and 3rd-4th grade elementary students will start on June 3. Finally, 7th-grade and 5th-6th grade elementary students will return on June 8.
Although the return dates have been delayed by one week per grade level, it was explained that as long as 12th-grade students return before the end of May, there will be no changes to the college entrance exam (CSAT) schedule.
Deputy Minister of Education Park Baek-beom conveyed this during a briefing held at the Government Complex Sejong on the 11th.
Deputy Minister Park stated, "As long as 12th-grade students return before the end of May, there will be no changes to the college entrance exam schedule."
He also announced that the nationwide joint academic assessment, organized by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and originally scheduled for the 14th of this month, will be postponed to after the 20th.
The Ministry of Education plans to respond promptly to any changes based on future epidemiological investigation results.

Deputy Minister Park said, "Anyone who visited entertainment establishments (clubs, pubs, etc.) in Itaewon from April 24 to May 6, or school members whose movement paths overlapped with confirmed cases, regardless of symptoms, should visit the nearest screening clinic to get tested." He added, "If anyone conceals their visit or contact history and refuses to get tested, thereby hindering quarantine efforts, strict measures will be taken in consultation with relevant agencies according to related laws."
