KCTU Decides to Participate in 'One-Point Social Dialogue' to Overcome COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) has decided to participate in the 'One-Point Social Dialogue' to overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis.
On the 11th, the FKTU issued a statement saying, "We have decided to participate in the social dialogue to overcome the COVID-19 crisis."
The One-Point Social Dialogue is a labor-management-government dialogue proposed by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and has been promoted under the leadership of Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun. It is a labor-management-government dialogue conducted outside the Economic, Social and Labor Council (ESLC), a social dialogue body directly under the president.
Until now, the FKTU had a negative stance toward social dialogue conducted outside the existing social dialogue body, the ESLC. At the Central Executive Committee meeting of the FKTU on the 29th of last month, no conclusion was reached, and the decision was delegated to the executive branch.
The FKTU explained, "We have had intense internal discussions and deliberations on the issues when conducting social dialogue outside the ESLC," and added, "To overcome the current COVID-19 crisis and prepare for a new society in the 'post-COVID' era, we have decided to participate in the dialogue with all agendas and formats open."
