Organizational Restructuring Following May 1 Enforcement of the Building Management Act... Strengthening Building Safety Management System to Prevent Accidents
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is expanding the operation of the 'Gangdong-gu Building Safety Center,' the first of its kind established by a local government for systematic management of buildings.
On May 1, in line with the enforcement of the Building Management Act, the district reorganized its structure, subdividing the Building Safety Team, which is in charge of the Building Safety Center, into the Building Safety Management Team and the Construction Site Safety Management Team.
This is to promptly respond to the paradigm shift in construction from 'new construction' to 'maintenance,' strengthen the building safety management system, and prevent safety accidents at construction sites, such as the recent fire incident at a logistics warehouse construction site.
Additionally, following the recruitment of architects and structural engineers last year, this year the district hired construction technology engineers to enhance expertise in reviewing and supporting technical matters related to building safety.
Through the expansion of the Building Safety Center, the district will thoroughly carry out tasks in accordance with the enforcement of the Building Management Act, including building status surveys, seismic and fire safety inspections, maintenance, management of building life-cycle information systems, strengthening building management, providing technical support to improve fire safety, and managing safety during building demolition work, thereby striving to preserve and improve building functions and ensure safety.
