Gwangju City and City Education Office Supply 'Agricultural Family Packages' to Students' Families
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 10th that starting from the 12th, it will supply ‘Agricultural Product Family Packages’ produced by local farms to the households of approximately 204,000 kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students in the region, in cooperation with the City Office of Education.
This package supply was prepared to alleviate the burden on parents who have been providing long-term home care due to the suspension of school meals and to help local farms suffering losses.
Gwangju City signed an agreement with the Seo, Nam, and Gwangsan District School Meal Support Centers regarding the composition and supply of the packages, and established a cooperative system with the City Office of Education to support agricultural product packages worth about 35,000 KRW using approximately 7.2 billion KRW from the school free meal budget.
The packages consist of various grains such as eco-friendly rice and mixed grains, as well as fruits and vegetables preferred by parents, and will be delivered in stages until early next month, focusing mainly on households of high school students who start school earlier.
Hong Yang-chun, Administrative Director of the City Office of Education, said, “Through this agricultural product package support, we hope it will be a great help in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis for students, parents, farms, and meal supply companies who have had a difficult time.”
