5·18 Archive and Jeju 4·3 Peace Foundation to Collaborate on World Documentary Heritage Project
Record, Exhibition, Education, and Promotion MOU Signed... Special Exhibition for the 40th Anniversary of 5·18 from the 19th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 7th, the 5·18 Democratic Movement Archives announced that it signed a business agreement with the Jeju 4·3 Peace Foundation for UNESCO World Heritage-related tasks as well as records, exhibitions, education, and publicity.
The Jeju 4·3 Peace Foundation has been preparing for several years to register the Jeju 4·3 Incident records as a UNESCO World Heritage, modeled after the inscription of the 5·18 Democratic Movement records as World Heritage.
On the occasion of signing the business agreement, the 5·18 Democratic Movement Archives and the Jeju 4·3 Peace Foundation will jointly hold a special exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratic Movement titled "From April to May" at the 2nd-floor planned exhibition hall of the Jeju 4·3 Peace Memorial Hall from the 19th of this month to the 21st of next month.
The exhibition was originally scheduled to open on the 28th of last month but was postponed considering COVID-19 and other factors.
The exhibition will recreate the permanent exhibition content of the 5·18 Democratic Movement Archives at the Jeju 4·3 Peace Memorial Hall and introduce the UNESCO World Heritage 5·18 Democratic Movement records, related videos, books, and picture books.
Gwangju City plans to promote and exhibit the UNESCO World Heritage 5·18 records in Jeju in the future under this business agreement to reveal the truth of the 5·18 Democratic Movement.
Additionally, it is expected to contribute to establishing the spirit of democracy, human rights, and peace by rediscovering human rights violations caused by state violence, which can be confirmed in both the 5·18 Democratic Movement and the Jeju 4·3 Incident.
The 40th-anniversary special exhibition of the 5·18 Democratic Movement held at the Jeju 4·3 Peace Memorial Hall can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
