Hyundai Heavy Industries Wins 150 Billion KRW Order for Two Large Crude Oil Tankers
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has succeeded in securing orders for two large crude oil carriers.
Hyundai Heavy Industries Group announced on the 7th that it recently signed a construction contract worth a total of 150 billion KRW for two large crude oil carriers of 158,000 tons each with a European shipowner. The contract includes options for two additional vessels, raising expectations for further orders in the future.
The vessels ordered this time measure 274 meters in length, 48 meters in width, and 23.2 meters in height. They will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and are scheduled to be delivered sequentially to the shipowner starting from January 2022.
Since 1974, when it built Korea's first ultra-large crude oil carrier, the Atlantic Baron, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has constructed and delivered more than 1,600 tankers (including crude oil carriers and PC vessels), leading the market in this sector.
