Muju-gun, Disaster Basic Income Distribution Progressing Smoothly
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Go Dallyoung] Muju-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 7th that it has started distributing disaster basic income through Muju Sarang Gift Certificates.
The total amount of disaster basic income to be distributed this time is 2.43 billion KRW, and it is expected that once the consumption of local gift certificates becomes active, it will greatly contribute to stabilizing residents' lives and revitalizing the local economy.
To distribute the disaster basic income, 358 village-assigned public officials are conducting simultaneous visits to 150 villages in 6 eup and myeon. The assigned officials visit village heads and each household to receive application forms and receipts and deliver the payments.
Individual envelopes containing the disaster basic income also include the purpose of support and requests for COVID-19 prevention and overcoming, adding significance. If a household was not able to receive the disaster basic income due to absence, they can visit the respective eup or myeon administrative welfare center directly by the 29th to receive it.
Hwang Inhong, the mayor of Muju-gun, stated, “We are providing 100,000 KRW per person to all residents regardless of age, income, or gender,” and added, “We will complete the distribution quickly so that the disaster basic income can serve as a support pillar to restore families and the local economy affected by COVID-19.”
He further added, “We will continue to do our best in various ways to prevent and overcome COVID-19.”

The disaster basic income in Muju-gun is funded by reducing 30% of travel expenses for public officials and council members, cutting 10% of general operating expenses, and restructuring expenditures to overcome COVID-19. After the approval of the first supplementary budget, including the ordinance on Muju-gun disaster basic income support on the 20th and 21st of last month, the gift certificates have been purchased and delivered to residents.
