Hanwha's 'Cleanup Mekong' Campaign Wins Gold at New York Festival Advertising Awards
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hanwha Group's environmental protection campaign 'Clean Up Mekong,' conducted in the Mekong River basin in Vietnam, won the Gold Award in the 'Eco-friendly PR (Public Relations: Best Use/Environmental Effort)' category at the New York Festivals Advertising Awards.
The New York Festivals, considered one of the world's top three advertising festivals alongside the Clio Awards in the U.S. and the Cannes Lions in France, announced the 2020 award winners on the 4th (local U.S. time) through a press release.
This year, the New York Festivals received thousands of entries from 60 countries worldwide, covering advertising, content, PR productions, partnerships, and overall corporate communications. Due to the impact of COVID-19, preliminary and final judging were conducted online, and the awards ceremony will be omitted.
Clean Up Mekong received six main awards, including the Gold Award in the 'Eco-friendly PR' category and five Bronze Awards, after evaluation by over 400 expert judges. It is the only Gold Award-winning entry among Korean companies this year.
Additionally, it won Bronze Awards in five other categories: 'Creative Marketing Strategy/Efficiency,' 'Social/Environmental Product Brand PR,' 'Corporate Image PR,' 'Product Design Innovation,' and 'Outdoor Media,' marking the highest number of category wins among Korean companies this year.
'Clean Up Mekong' is a campaign prepared by Hanwha Group to help solve environmental issues in Vietnam, a global forward base region. In June last year, Hanwha donated two waterborne garbage collection boats powered by Hanwha Q CELLS' solar panels to Vinh Long City, Vietnam.
These boats are equipped with Hanwha Q CELLS' high-performance solar modules to enhance energy efficiency and feature conveyor devices to collect floating debris. Measuring 6.45 meters in length, 2.3 meters in width, and 2.6 meters in height, they operate 6 to 7 hours daily on the Mekong River, collecting floating waste. The two boats collect approximately 400 to 500 kilograms of debris each day.
