[Golf Topic] Montgomery's 'Bitter Words'... "COVID-19 Tests Should Start with Medical Staff"
[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] ○…"COVID-19 tests should be prioritized for medical staff."
European Tour veteran Colin Montgomery (Scotland, photo) criticized the PGA Tour's plan to order 1 million COVID-19 test kits. In an interview with the Scottish newspaper The Scotsman on the 6th (Korean time), he argued, "If there is such a luxury, it is right to use them first for those working on the front lines of healthcare worldwide rather than for golfers."
The PGA Tour was fully suspended after the first round of The Players Championship, known as the "fifth major," in March, and plans to resume the season starting with the Charles Schwab Challenge on June 11. Commissioner Jay Monahan stated earlier, "To hold the tournament, all players, caddies, and officials must undergo COVID-19 testing," adding, "Testing will be conducted before the opening and daily throughout the tournament."

Montgomery is currently active on the PGA Champions Tour for players aged 50 and over. He explained, "Not everyone is being tested for COVID-19 yet," and emphasized that "(the test kits) should be used where they are urgently needed." He expressed concern, saying, "Even in games without spectators, at least 600 people, including the broadcast crew, must gather," and warned, "If even one person comes into contact with the virus, uncontrollable situations could arise."
