According to the Korea Forest Service on the 4th, the fire broke out around 1:22 PM in the afternoon in the hills around Namhiryong-ri, Socheon-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk, and was extinguished around 3:45 PM, about two hours later.
The Korea Forest Service deployed seven helicopters (three from the Korea Forest Service and four from local governments), 125 firefighting personnel (including six from the Special Forest Fire Disaster Suppression Team, 40 from the Forest Fire Prevention and Suppression Team, 25 public officials, and 12 firefighters), and 13 firefighting vehicles to control the flames.

A Korea Forest Service official said, “A forest fire of unknown cause occurred in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk. Helicopters and firefighting personnel were dispatched to the site, and the fire was extinguished 2 hours and 23 minutes after it started. Currently, crews are cleaning up remaining embers on site, and an investigation will be conducted later to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of forest damage.”
