Police Refer 72 People to Prosecution for Violating COVID-19 Self-Quarantine Rules
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The police have referred 72 individuals to the prosecution with charges for violating self-quarantine rules related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The National Police Agency announced on the 4th that since March 27, they conducted joint surprise inspections targeting 6,947 COVID-19 self-quarantined individuals and investigated 224 cases of quarantine violations, resulting in 72 people being sent to the prosecution with charges. Additionally, 136 people who spread false information related to COVID-19 and 52 people who leaked personal information have been apprehended and are under investigation.

The police deployed an average of 647 officers daily, totaling 27,834 officers, to conduct joint crackdowns with local governments on 178,139 entertainment establishments. Among these, 13,313 establishments that violated quarantine rules were reported to local governments. A total of 313 entertainment establishments were caught for illegal activities such as operating without a license during this crackdown. PC rooms accounted for the highest number with 89 locations, followed by entertainment bars with 77 locations. Karaoke bars and singing rooms numbered 64 and 60 respectively. Clubs (22 locations) and a colatec (1 location) were also caught.
