Seongdong-gu to Provide Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to All Vulnerable Groups on the 4th
100% Immediate Payment to Over 23,000 Vulnerable Households Including Basic Livelihood Recipients... 'Seongdong-gu 1st Supplementary Budget' Confirmed on 29th Last Month, Utilizing 9 Billion KRW in Disaster and Emergency Reserve Funds
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced on May 4 that it will provide the government's emergency disaster relief funds uniformly to all 23,000 households of socially vulnerable groups, including basic livelihood security recipients, residing in Seongdong-gu.
This is because 9 billion KRW was proactively allocated as a contingency fund for disaster and calamity purposes in the first supplementary budget of Seongdong-gu for 2020, confirmed on April 29.
Following the confirmation of the government's second supplementary budget on April 30, it was announced that cash payments will be exceptionally made to socially vulnerable households, who are prioritized recipients of disaster relief funds, starting May 4.
As a result, while local governments face difficulties in promptly securing funds and preparing supplementary budgets for cash payments, Seongdong-gu was able to immediately pay all eligible recipients on the first day, May 4, by pre-allocating the supplementary budget and including local funds along with the first national subsidy.
The scale is approximately 16 billion KRW.
The emergency disaster relief funds will be paid in cash to about 23,000 households of socially vulnerable groups in Seongdong-gu, such as recipients of basic livelihood security living expenses, disability pensions, and basic pensions, using welfare system data without separate applications.
Meanwhile, general households can apply for credit and debit card points on each card company's website starting May 11, and from May 18, they can also visit financial institutions linked to their cards.
Households wishing to receive the funds via prepaid cards or local love gift certificates can do so starting May 18, and to avoid overlap with Seoul City's emergency living expenses application, the community service centers will accept visits based on a five-day rotation system according to birth dates starting June 1.
The total disaster relief funds provided by Seongdong-gu amount to 81.7 billion KRW, with 67.9 billion KRW from national funds, 9.2 billion KRW from city funds, and 4.6 billion KRW from local funds.
Support amounts are 400,000 KRW for one-person households, 600,000 KRW for two-person households, 800,000 KRW for three-person households, and 1,000,000 KRW for households of four or more members.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Since the key to disaster relief fund payments is promptness, we plan to concentrate all administrative efforts to ensure swift execution.”
