Gwanak-gu Receives 10,000 Masks and 500 Protective Suits from Chinese Sister City
Received Donation of 10,000 N95 Masks and 500 Protective Suits from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China... District Mayor Park Jun-hee Delivers Supplies to Local Screening Clinic Medical Staff, Participates in 'Thanks Challenge'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) received support of quarantine supplies such as masks from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Gwanak-gu has a sister city relationship with Hohhot City, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The supplies sent from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region include 10,000 medical masks (N95) and 500 protective suits, worth approximately 36 million KRW.
Posolim, Chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, sent a poem by the renowned contemporary poet Wang Changling (王昌齡) that says, "The two places’ mountains and waters are connected, clouds and rain communicate, and under the same bright moonlight, they beautifully shine (?山一道同云雨,明月何曾是??)," expressing, “Although we are apart, our hearts feel as if we are together. We wish for Korea’s swift recovery and well-being.”
Gwanak-gu will deliver the received supplies to the medical staff at local screening clinics who are working day and night on the front lines against COVID-19.
On the 29th of last month, Mayor Park Jun-hee handed over protective supplies to Kim Cheol-soo, Chairman of H+ Yangji Hospital, and Choi Jeong-hwa, Director of Gwanak-gu Public Health Center, participating in the 'Thanks Challenge' to express gratitude to medical personnel treating COVID-19 patients.
The 'Thanks Challenge' is a national participation campaign where people post photos or videos of sign language gestures meaning 'respect' and 'pride' on social networking services (SNS) such as Instagram, attaching three hashtags: '#ThanksCampaign', '#ThanksChallenge', and '#ThanksToMedicalStaff'.
Gwanak-gu and Hohhot City began exchanges in 1997 by exchanging a memorandum of international friendship cities and a letter of intent to promote mutual exchanges between private economic organizations. They signed a friendship cooperation agreement in 2000 and a sister city agreement in 2012, continuing steady exchanges in various fields such as economy, culture, and education.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I commend the efforts of the government officials of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Hohhot City who have worked hard for the successful quarantine of COVID-19, and sincerely thank them for their warm hearts.” He added, “Gwanak-gu, as a sister city, will not hesitate to provide support if there is anything we can help with.”
