Creating Farm Income through Commercialization of Clean Boseong Agricultural and Specialty Products 'Nokdon, Green Tea'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Yong-chul] On the 1st, Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has partnered with BGF Retail to launch six premium products using local agricultural specialties, Boseong Nokdon pork and Boseong green tea, which will be sold at CU stores nationwide.
The six products developed using Boseong agricultural specialties include a variety of items ranging from convenient meals such as lunch boxes, hamburgers, kimbap, triangular kimbap, sandwiches, and bibim noodles to desserts.
The Boseong Nokdon pork bulgogi set meal is stir-fried with chewy pork hind leg meat and spicy red chili peppers, and the pork cutlet is made with tender and mild domestic pork loin coated with a thin batter and fried crispy, served with rice and side dishes made from Korean agricultural products, priced at 5,000 won.
The Boseong Nokdon pork kimbap, which contains a whole pork cutlet, is priced at 2,400 won; the triangular kimbap with green tea rice cooked with brewed green tea and thickly fried pork loin cutlet is 1,300 won; and the Nokdon burger is offered at 2,500 won.
Additionally, the green tea sandwich and green tea bibim noodles are made using Boseong tea leaves registered as a National Important Agricultural Heritage. The green tea sandwich is sold for 2,300 won, and the green tea bibim noodles for 3,900 won.
Boseong Nokdon pork comes from pigs fed with pig feed containing green tea. Pork from pigs fed green tea feed is known as premium pork due to its reduced characteristic odor and cholesterol content, and tender meat quality.
The county expects that the launch of these products will help generate income for local farmers by commercializing agricultural specialties amid difficulties caused by COVID-19.
Cho Sung-wook, head of the BGF Retail Ready Meal Team, said, “We are releasing convenient foods using domestic ingredients to ease the difficulties faced by local farmers due to prolonged consumption stagnation. CU will continue to develop products linked to local specialties to create excellent products that customers can trust and enjoy.”
A county official stated, “It is very meaningful to create a successful model of coexistence among CU, a domestic specialized distribution company, the local community, and businesses. We will do our best in developing various products and managing quality to uphold the reputation of Boseong Nokdon pork and Boseong green tea.”
