Although COVID-19 is calming down, people are still reluctant to visit performance venues. During this golden holiday period, there is an abundance of domestic and international online performances that can be enjoyed at home while maintaining social distancing.
The National Ballet Company will release videos of the performance of The Nutcracker twice on its official YouTube account: at 2 p.m. on May 3 and 10 a.m. on May 5. After the COVID-19 outbreak, the National Ballet Company launched an online video streaming service called 'KNB RE:PLAY' that screens major repertoire works, previously showing Heo Nanseolheon - Suwol Gyeonghwa (April 18-19) and Anna Karenina (April 24-26).
The Nutcracker, one of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's three major ballet works, is regarded as a representative year-end piece that the whole family can enjoy during Christmas. The National Ballet Company explained that it was chosen because it is also a work that fits well with May, the month of family. Following The Nutcracker, the company plans to screen the grand production La Bayad?re on May 16-17.
The National Opera Company has also been showing operas performed so far on its official YouTube account for one week each since early this month. During this holiday period, they will screen Boris Godunov and The Magic Flute.
Boris Godunov is an opera composed by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1872. It is regarded as a work that shows the most Russian color. Boris Godunov is a character who kills the young prince and ascends to the throne. The Magic Flute is one of Mozart's representative works, released in 1791. The aria of the Queen of the Night, "Der H?lle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" ("Hell's vengeance boils in my heart"), is a famous piece that almost everyone has heard at least once.
The National Opera Company will screen Boris Godunov until May 3 and The Magic Flute from May 4. Afterwards, from May 11-17, The Lady of Camellias - La Traviata, from May 18-24, Cosi fan tutte, and from May 25-31, Andrea Ch?nier will be shown consecutively.
The National Theater is also showing performances from its three affiliated groups?the National Changgeuk Company, National Dance Company, and National Gugak Orchestra?each for one week. Until May 1, they are screening the National Dance Company's 2015 performance Feast, followed by the National Gugak Orchestra's last year's performance Yang Bang-ean and National Gugak Orchestra - Into the Light.
The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture is holding the 'Namsan Arts Center NFLIX' screening event, streaming recorded live performances of plays performed at the Namsan Arts Center online. Originally scheduled to end with Blue Country on April 30, they decided to add The Bride Without Hands starting May 1.
Jeongdong Theater will broadcast Yang Jun-mo's Opera Date live without an audience on May 1 at 11 a.m. via the Jeongdong Theater YouTube channel. Musical actor Yang Jun-mo will host, with baritone Yang Jun-mo (same name) and pianist Bang Eun-hyun as guests, presenting various operas and classical music pieces featured in films. The KBS Symphony Orchestra will live stream a concert without an audience on May 2 at 5 p.m. from the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center. They will perform the first movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 "Emperor" and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 "Italian." Artistic director Choi Soo-yeol of the Busan Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra will conduct, with violinist Lim Ji-young, winner of the 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition, and pianist Kim Jung-won as soloists.

Musical legend Lloyd Andrew Webber has launched the YouTube channel 'Shows Must Go On,' releasing one of his representative works every Saturday (Korean time). At 3 a.m. on May 2 (Korean time), a musical concert video held at the Royal Albert Hall in London will be released. Russia's representative Mariinsky Theater and Bolshoi Theater will consecutively screen ballet works. At 1 a.m. on May 1 (Korean time), the Mariinsky Theater will screen the Mariinsky Ballet's performance of Giselle. The Bolshoi Theater will screen Shostakovich's ballet The Bright Stream at 1 a.m. on May 4 and the ballet Don Quixote at 1 a.m. on May 8.
