Sharing the Developer's Paradise 'NC'
Various Events Including Lectures and Research Discussions
Positive Response to In-House Career Development Program
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] NCSoft (hereinafter NC) is trying various programs that share knowledge and experience for developers' career development. Representative programs include NCDP, a knowledge-sharing conference; NC University, which supports employees' knowledge creation; and NC AI Day, which shares achievements in artificial intelligence (AI) research and development (R&D).
According to NC on the 29th, the third NCDP this year was held under the slogan "Technology" at the Pangyo R&D Center on the 27th and 28th. NCDP, held once a year, is a festival for NC employees to share insights about games and confirm their passion for game development. This year's event was streamed online as part of social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A total of 62 lectures were held, and employees chose and watched the lectures they wanted. The main lecture topics were composed of 11 fields including game design, programming, security, data, AI, art, and sound.
NC AI Day is led by the AI Center and Natural Language Processing (NLP) Center, which are responsible for AI research at NC, to share R&D achievements and discuss future development directions. Not only NC employees but also professors and students from leading domestic graduate schools attended.
University is a place that shares NC's corporate values and fosters leaders and experts through various high-quality lectures. It consists of a seminar hall with a capacity of 60 people, five classrooms, and two meeting rooms. On average, about 200 classes are offered annually at NC University, with specialized courses in technology and development fields such as game planning, development, and art accounting for more than half of all classes.
In addition, since 2018, NC has operated an internal career development system called the "Ban-Idong Program," allowing employees to participate in new tasks or desired projects. Thanks to this, employees can experience various fields, such as AI researchers from programming backgrounds, game planners from marketing backgrounds, and HR planners from data analysis backgrounds. An NC official said, "The Ban-Idong Program is meaningful in that it allows employees to find and challenge work they have always wanted to try within the company," adding, "It is a program that has received positive responses as employees with expertise and experience in various fields form teams to promote innovative growth."
