Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and EBS Produce and Distribute VR Orchestra for Elementary and Middle School Music Education Content
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (Seoul Philharmonic) and EBS have produced and are providing a high-quality music education content called 'VR Orchestra.' VR Orchestra was created to be used as online class material for elementary and middle school students who started school at home due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Seoul Philharmonic carefully selected and performed 10 orchestral pieces introduced as must-listen music in elementary and middle school textbooks, focusing on works with clear structures and repetitive melodies that students can enjoy. They chose works by representative composers from Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, France, Norway, and other countries, allowing students to experience the differences in music and styles from various nations.
In particular, the content enables students to naturally encounter the orchestra and various instruments by watching videos ranging from the small ensemble orchestral piece 'The Carnival of the Animals' by Saint-Sa?ns to the large-scale orchestral piece 'Pomp and Circumstance March' by Elgar, which employs all the instruments of the orchestra.
The recording and filming were conducted at Lotte Concert Hall under the baton of Wilson Ng, the associate conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic. The recording was handled by sound master Jin Choi, a tone meister who has been responsible for recordings of world-class orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus, London Symphony, Czech Philharmonic, and Deutsche Symphony, providing content with the highest sound quality. Additionally, by utilizing VR technology, viewers can feel as if they are sitting in the performers' seats and directly experiencing the performance as if they were members of the orchestra.
The 10 art education contents, completed through the collaboration between the Seoul Philharmonic, which is systematically promoting life-cycle education projects, and EBS, which has accumulated expertise in producing immersive content over many years, will be released on the morning of the 29th at 9 a.m. on the YouTube channels of 'Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra,' 'EBS Culture (EBS Education),' 'Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education,' and 'Seoul City.' They can be freely used without copyright restrictions for conducting online classes.
